What Color is Success?
“What color is success?” my son asked on a sunny warm day as we walked hand in hand to the park down the street.
“Today, it’s blue.” I smiled, looking up at clear blue skies, enjoying the light breezes that ruffled my hair and reminded me that winter may not be completely over.
“I like when success is blue,” he smiled back, a toothless grin that would remind me forever of child hood, simple moments, and freedom to just be a mommy.
We walked in silence for a moment.
”Mommy, is that why in the background of money, it’s kind of blue?” He asked.
“Maybe,” I agreed. “I suppose it could be.”
“Daddy says money makes us successful.” He stopped to pick up a rock to add to the pocket collection. He had several already in his pockets.
“I think money, like memories, can be a measure of success,” I agree nodding, “but more than that, I believe that how much you are loved measures your success.”
We walked further. Silence became non-existent as the kids from the park screamed and laughed. He joined his friends and I walked around the path that circled the playground several times along with other Mom’s who came for their daily walk out. On my last round, my son took my hand about half way around and joined me, walking off the playground as I finished my walk.
“Mom, I think you must be really successful, because I love you a really lot!” His blue eyes looked up at me as he said it, and I knew the color of success truly is BLUE!
